City of Moorhead Dog & Cat Ordinances

All dogs and cats, 6 months of age or older, must be licensed each
year.

All dogs must be inoculated against rabies every 2 years, and cats
every 12 months. Veterinarian's certificate required for rabies inoculation
& de-sexing of animals. Animals must wear license and rabies inoculation
tags at all times.

No dog or cat is allowed to run at large. All animals must be on
a leash not exceeding 6 feet in length if off the owner's property.
All dogs or cats running at large will be impounded and will not be
released until the impound fee is paid.
The owner of any dog or cat six (6) months of age or older, impounded
by the city which is not licensed for the current year, will be assessed
a $50.00 impound fee in addition to other impound fees. All dogs unclaimed
after five (5) days and cats unclaimed after three (3) days will be
placed or destroyed.

Any person maintaining a dog or cat chained in a yard or else where,
shall clean waste material daily. All waste material is to be put
in disposable containers, covered, and placed on the boulevard on
the day of garbage pickup. No person is to allow a dog or cat in their
possession to deposit animal waste in City Parks, on public property
or on the property of other citizens or residents of the City of Moorhead.

Any Dog, which habitually barks, cries or howls is a public nuisance
and will be impounded.

A dog or cat license can be obtained at the Moorhead
Police Department or you can download
the registration form, complete and return.

Impounded dogs or cats can only be released at the Moorhead Police
Department. If you think your animal may have been impounded, call
