River Valley |
Safe Communities Coalition of the Red River Valley is an organization that began
as a DUI Task Force in 1982. The mission of the DUI Task Force was to identify
factors contributing to drinking and driving and develop methods to counteract
it. In 1984, the DUI Task Force evolved into the Traffic Safety Task Force. This
Task Force was instrumental in drafting and securing support for traffic safety
legislation and educating the public on seat belt use and passenger safety.
In the summer of 2001, the Traffic Safety Task Force further evolved, changing
its name to Safe Communities Coalition of the Red River Valley and adopting the
Safe Communities model. The mission of the Safety Communities Coalition of the
Red River Valley is to decrease injuries and fatalities through collaborative
and preventative partnership efforts. Safe Communities Coalition of the Red
River Valley is a gathering of public and private agencies that share a common
interest in injury and trauma prevention through resources, education and
information to the ever-changing community.
The vision that supports the mission includes:
1) To educate and increase public awareness regarding comprehensive traffic
safety;
2) to provide a resource center containing current data and information on
injury statistics and prevention efforts;
3) to act as a liaison between local, county, state and federal agencies
providing a base for communication, information and education; and
4) to maintain a safe community program within Cass and Clay counties.
