Bait and Belts
In conjunction with the annual national "May Mobilization" to increase seat belt usage, the Moorhead Police Department, working with the Safe Communities Coalition of the Red River Valley and other area law enforcement agencies, sponsors the "Bait and Belts" program. The following sporting goods retailers conduct in-store drawings from registrations for fishing-related prizes:

Scheels
Wal-mart
Sportsman's Warehouse

Timing for this campaign coincides with the Minnesota fishing opener. The registration slips used by these retailers contain a pledge by participants to always wear a seat belt while traveling in a motor vehicle. Winners of the 2006 drawings can be found at www.mysafecommunity.org/contest.htm

Other "May Mobilization" activities include a live radio remote with artificial fishing lures distributed on the eve of fishing opener with a vehicle roll-over simulator on display.
