The Moorhead Police Department hosted the first Junior Police Academy in summer 2007. This was a new venture for the police department. The Junior Police Academy is meant for those youth who are no longer eligible to attend the Moorhead Police Summer Youth Program because of their age and for youth interested in law enforcement as a possible future career. The academy is designed for youth ages 13-15 and there is no cost to attend.
Some of the education/training included in the academy:
- Physical education each day (light jogging)
- History of law enforcement
- Knowledge of use of force
- Evidence detection/collection
- Knowledge of traffic stops
- CPR/First aid
- K-9 demonstration
2008 Junior Police Academy dates are as follows
- Session #1 June 30, July 1, July 3, July 7, July 8 and July 10
- Session #2 July 14, July 15, July 17, July 21, July 22, and July 24
- Session #3 July 28, July 29, July 31, August 4, August 5 and August 7
Each session will run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
We will meet at the Police Station at 915 9th Avenue North, Moorhead, Minnesota.
